Your data is private, even from us
How ماله فيم أنفقه protects your financial records
End-to-end encrypted
Your records are encrypted on your own device before they are saved. The database only ever receives scrambled data. No one else can read your amounts, descriptions, categories or notes: not other users, not the hosting company, and not the Jannatak administrator.
The key that unlocks your data is made from a passphrase that only you know. It is never sent over the internet and never stored anywhere.
| Information | Readable by anyone but you? |
|---|---|
| Amounts, descriptions, notes | No, encrypted |
| Categories and spending types (including anything marked Excess or Forbidden) | No, encrypted |
| Income sources, debts, who you owe or who owes you | No, encrypted |
| Zakat figures, budgets, settings, currencies | No, encrypted |
| Your passphrase and recovery key | Never leave your device |
| That your account uses the finance tool | Yes |
| How many records you have, the kind of each (expense, income…) and the month it belongs to | Yes, so the app can load a month at a time |
This is exactly what one of your expenses looks like in the database. You can see a live example yourself in Settings → Privacy & security → What the database stores.

- No one can reset your passphrase, including us. That is the proof that no one else holds your key.
- Keep your recovery key safe. If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery key, your data cannot be recovered by anyone.
- The exported spreadsheet (CSV) is not encrypted. Store it somewhere private.
- Bank files stay on your device. When you import a CSV from your bank, it is read in your browser. Each transaction is encrypted before it is saved; the file itself is never uploaded.
- Everything is calculated on your device. Totals, the scale, budgets and zakat are worked out in your browser after your data is unlocked.
- You stay in control. You can delete all your finance data permanently from Settings at any time.
Getting started
About two minutes, once
The spending scale · ميزان الإنفاق
Every expense sits somewhere between what stays with you and what stays in this world
The tool is built on the hadith: «لا تزول قدما عبد يوم القيامة حتى يُسأل … وعن ماله من أين اكتسبه وفيم أنفقه» (Tirmidhi 2417), and on the words of the Prophet ﷺ: «فإن ماله ما قدّم، ومال وارثه ما أخّر» (Bukhari 6442). Your real wealth is what you send ahead.
Zakat, sadaqah, sadaqah jariyah, orphan sponsorship, gifts to relatives, Islamic learning, Hajj and Umrah.
Family, children, parents, paying off debts. «أعظمها أجرًا الذي أنفقته على أهلك» (Muslim 995).
Utilities, car repairs, insurance, medical, transport, taxes. Things outside your control.
Eating out, shopping, outings, subscriptions. Permissible; watch the amount.
Impulse buys, unused subscriptions, wasted food, luxury for show (7:31).
Interest paid, gambling, haram purchases. The goal is always zero (2:276).
On the Overview tab, tap any type to see its categories and the evidence behind it. The Month reflection gives you a short, honest summary, and Daily sadaqah shows each day of the month you gave something, even a little.
Ledger & intention
Recording expenses, and the ✦ that changes their weight
Tap + Add expense. Enter the amount and currency, what it was, the date and a category. The category decides its place on the scale, but you can move a single expense to another type. Tap any expense later to edit or delete it.
For obligations, necessities and comforts you can mark an expense as spent for Allah's sake. The Prophet ﷺ said: «إنك لن تنفق نفقة تبتغي بها وجه الله إلا أُجرت عليها، حتى ما تجعل في فيّ امرأتك» (Bukhari 56). These add up in the With intention total on the Overview.
Hide sadaqah amounts in the Ledger if you prefer not to see them, following «حتى لا تعلم شماله ما تنفق يمينه» (Bukhari 1423). You can make this the default in Settings.
Bank download · تنزيل البنك
Bring in a month of card and account spending in one go
The app looks, in order, at: what you chose before for the same merchant (it learns as you go), the description (for example Publix → Groceries, Islamic Relief → Sadaqah, "interest charge" → Interest paid), and your bank's own category if the file includes one. A suggestion is never applied until you accept it.
Budget
Floors for what you give, caps for what you consume
Goals to reach are floors. Your sadaqah goal is a share of your halal income for the month (10% by default, set in Settings), and you can add your own goals.
Limits to stay under are caps, such as eating out or shopping. Excess and Forbidden always aim for zero. When you pass a limit, a short ayah can remind you (you can turn this off).
Zakat
2.5% of zakatable wealth after one lunar year
Worn jewelry: the Hanafi school counts gold and silver jewelry that is worn; the Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali schools exempt it when it's for normal personal use. Choose your position in Settings, and a jewelry field appears in the calculator.
The calculator covers common cases. For business assets, retirement accounts, property held for sale or other complex situations, consult a qualified scholar.
Income & debts · من أين اكتسبه
The other half of the question: where it was earned
Record each income with its status. Halal income counts toward your sadaqah goal. Doubtful or interest income goes into your purification balance: money to give away to rid yourself of it. It is kept apart from sadaqah and is not counted as sent ahead.
Debts: write them down, as the Quran commands (2:282). Record payments as you make them; they appear in your Ledger under Debt repayment. Borrowed more from the same person? Use + Additional debt. Lent someone more? Use + Additional loan. Both add to the same record, and tapping a debt shows its full history.
Statement: the Statement button on any debt shows everything with that person, across all their loans and debts in both directions, with a running balance ("Owes you" or "You owe"). ⬇ Export CSV saves it as a spreadsheet you can send them to reconcile. Any balance you edit by hand appears as a correction, so the statement always adds up. The exported file isn't encrypted, so share it only with that person.
For money owed to you, Forgive as sadaqah lets you forgive all of it or only part. Only the amount you forgive is recorded as sadaqah sent ahead; the rest stays owed: ﴿وَأَن تَصَدَّقُوا خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ﴾ (2:280).

Devices & recovery
Your passphrase is all you carry
Sign in with the same email and type your passphrase. Your locked key is stored with your account, so every device unlocks the same data. Nothing needs to be copied between devices.
Tap 🔒 any time. The tool also locks itself after 15 minutes without activity (change this in Settings). Remember on this device skips the passphrase on a personal device until you press 🔒; leave it off on shared computers.
Your data is safe. It's all stored, encrypted, with your account. You'll just sign in and type your passphrase again.
On the lock screen tap Forgot your passphrase? Use your recovery key, enter the code and choose a new passphrase. Your records stay exactly as they are.
If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery key, no one can recover your data. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe, away from your devices.
Questions
- Can the Jannatak admin see my spending? No. The admin can see that your account has a certain number of encrypted records, and which month each belongs to, but not a single amount, description or category.
- Is it slow because of the encryption? No. Unlocking takes a second or two; after that, opening and saving records takes milliseconds.
- Can family members use it? Yes. Each person signs in with their own email and has their own passphrase and completely separate, private records.
- Which Hijri calendar is used? Umm al-Qura, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia. Local moon sighting can differ by a day.
- Can I get a copy of my data? Yes: Settings → Export CSV. Remember the file itself isn't encrypted.
